The Management of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, has announced the suspension of the ongoing orientation course for the 2020 Batch “A” Stream 1 Corps Member in line a similar measure taken during the outbreak of the Ebola virus in 2014, which the country effectively contained, speedily.
The management also cited government directives on the postponement of the National Sports Festival billed to hold in Edo State in five days time as additional official position that forced its hand to suspend the mandatory orientation exercise for corps members.
According to the NYSC management in a statement on Wednesday, “Sequel to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic which led to the cancellation of the National Sports Festival, Management of the National Youths Service Corps Scheme wished to announce the suspension of the ongoing orientation course…”
“The Corps Members shall be posted to commence their primary assignment forthwith, while they shall be invited back to the Orientation camps when the situation improves, juts like it happened a few years ago when the nation was confronted by the Ebola virus.”
It ended by saying no “Corps member of camp official has contracted the virus”
