But for the quick intervention of the host Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau state another round of crisis almost erupted on Saturday between the Nagaruta Community and University of Jos over land dispute after months of respite.
Information made available to our correspondent revealed that the warring parties to the disputed land almost came to blows in the early hour of Saturday resulting in the breakdown of law an order.
Trouble started when one Babangida Saudi Adam of Naraguta community was killed on the disputed land.
The incident occurred when a combined security operatives stormed the area to demolish houses on a disputed land.
Spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel, confirmed that one person was killed during an operation in the area but couldn’t give the details of the incident.
A member representing Jos North-North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan, who was at scene of the incident, confirmed that the incident occurred when security operatives arrived the area and started demolishing people’s property even when the matter was still in court.
He described the situation as unfortunate.
The Chairman of the management committee of the LGA, Hon. Bala Shehu in a statement confirmed that security personnel have been drafted to the scene of the fight.
According to him the situation had been brought under control and all the instigators will be brought to face the law.
“Meanwhile I have scheduled an emergency meeting with the community Leaders of Naraguta and the authority of the University of Jos and warned the perpetrators to stay clear of the area in dispute.
Shehu explained that as a leader, “I am saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order which I vow to protect lives and properties of people.”
