The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has reconstituted a national reconciliation committee to reconcile aggrieved members of the party in many states across the country. The crisis range from party leadership to display of raw power in the supremacy battle leaders over party structures and members.
Noticeable among the states that are been palgued by crisis are Edo where the governor, Godwin Obaseki and the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole have been having a running battle over party supremacy, Zamfara where a similar battle between Senator Marafa and ex-governor Abdulaziz Yari caused the party the control of the state in the 2019 election, Imo where Senator Rochas Okorocha and his son in-law, are at dangers-drawn with governor Hope Uzodinma and in Ondo where governor Rotimi Akeredolu enjoys a cats and dog relationship with the party leaders. In some other states, politics and power have become strange bedfellows for the ruling party, causing acrimony and mutual suspicion among the rank and file.
According to the party, President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reviewed the membership of the party’s National Reconciliation Committee.
The 12-member committee has the following as members.
1. Chief Bisi Akande (Chairman)
2. Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello
3. Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola
4. Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi
5. Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase
6. Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
7. Sen. Kashim Shettima
8. Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor
9. Alh. Nasiru Aliko Koki
10. Sen. Khairat Gwadabe-Abdulrazak
11. Sen. Binta Garba
12. Sen. John Enoh (Secretary).
The Committee is empowered, according to a statement by Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, National Publicity Secretary, to address grievances of party members across the country and resolve existing conflicts, all with a view to fostering oneness, strengthen the party for better governance and ensure unity of purpose within the party.
The committee will be inaugurated on Tuesday 11th February 2020 at the APC National Secretariat by 3pm.
