The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been warned to stay clear of the funeral ceremony of the parents of their leader, HRH Eze Israel Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Sally Kanu.
The President-General of Isiama Afafraukwu Development Union stated this while briefing newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital on the ceremony scheduled for next Friday.
Eze Kanu, who died late last year shortly after the death of the wife was the traditional ruler of Isiama Afaraukwu Ancient Kingdom in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
He said much as everybody is invited to the ceremony, it will be done in line with the customs and tradition of the land in conjunction with the entire Afaraukwu people.
According to Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, the family wants to accord their parents their deserved peaceful burial and will not want any clashes with the authorities.
The prince noted with concern the presence of armed soldiers who have been patrolling the community since last Sunday, explaining that the people have become afraid and comfortable with them.
“Enough is enough. We don’t want a re-occurrence of what happened in the community about three years ago, when soldiers invaded it, killed some people, and desecrated my father’s palace,” he added.
Similarly, the national president of Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka regretted that Igboland has been over militarised at the expense of those areas that need them.
