Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has again taken a swipe at the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Jamil Sarham, a Major General,expressing surprise why he was not redeployed in the recent transfers of officers by the Army High Command.
Wike who made the statement during the courtesy visit of by the Rives State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, assured the visitor that he will continue to support security agencies to fight crime in the state.
He said: The frequent changes of Commissioner of Police makes it difficult for security planning. I was reading where they transferred GOCs and other senior army officers, but left the GOC because he did their bidding. You are compensating crime because that is not good for the system.
There is no crime that is bigger than rigging, but the man has been left here. Those who are involved in election rigging and oil bunkering are left here because they did their bidding.”
Wike said the government has concluded plans to launch a new comprehensive security architecture, which will promote security across the state.
He said ahead of the launch of the new security plan, his administration recently donated 50 patrol vans to the police, while other security agencies have received security vans from the government.
Other agencies that have benefitted from the government’s gesture were the Navy with gunboats while security communications centers have been established in all 23 Local Governments in the state.
He urged the Commissioner to rejig his police structure for more efficiency and effectiveness and be more professional in the discharge of his duties, adding that it is unwise to be involved in partisan politics.
“Even if the you are from the President’s family, we will work with you to fight crime. If you decide to play politics then we will treat you as a politician. The only Commissioner that did not play politics was the immediate past Commissioner of police”, Wike said.
Reacting, Dandaura thanked the governor for his financial and logistical support to security agencies in the state and in particular for the donation of 50 patrol vans for the police.
Dandaura said; ” Iam here tofight crime and insecurity to a standstill. I will give the governor cooperation to fight crime”
