Allegations Baseless, Unfounded, Says CPS
The Chief Nkem Okoro-led All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state has accused Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of appointing his stoogies as local government transition committee chairmen to appropriate the council funds.
But in a swift reaction, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Barrister Onyebuchi Ememanka has dismissed the allegation, saying such unfounded allegations are common with desperate opposition.
The Publicity Secretary of the APGA, Hon. Ebere Uzoukwa stated this in a press statement issued, signed and made available to newsmen yesterday in Umuahia, the state capital.
Uzoukwa said the reappointment of the chairmen, who were sacked in May was “aimed as sustaining the looting spree in the state which has denied the people the desired basic developmental needs.”
He called for the invitation of anti-graft agencies especially the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to beam its searchlight on the council accounts for accountability and probity.
In the reaction, the CPS maintained that he was not surprised by the allegation, accusing the APGA of attempting to sew seeds of discord between the people and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.
Asserting that the present administration in the state has remained transparent and sincere to the people, since its inception over four years ago, he cautioned them against believing the allegation.
Emenanka said Ikpeazu is neither afraid of the EFCC nor being probed governor, saying the governor more interested in delivering on his campaign promises rather than responding to such allegations.
