Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North Central in the Senate went wild at a shop and slapped a lady many times and he was not restrained by his police orderly. His behaviour has continued to elicit criticisms from Nigerians who are and calling for his arrest and possible prosecution. Source of Video” Premium Times
The assault, according to PM, reportedly occurred on May 11, 2019, in an adult sex toy shop, in the presence of an armed policeman, who rather than assist the victim, arrested her.
Abbo, in his reaction, told Channels Television, on Wednesday, the owner of the shop only released a part of the video taking away the part showing where his younger sister was assaulted in the said shop.
He said he would soon issue a ‘robust’ statement on all that transpired in the viral video to the public.
According to him: “We will soon release an official statement to the very old video that happened before I became a Senator; where my younger sister was beaten to a pulp in the shop and I was called upon there, I had to call an ambulance and the Police to get to the scene and it got out of hand.”
“It is an old video but we will soon release a statement to that effect,”
“All in the video happened long before I became a senator but that doesn’t mean that, not something that I am happy about, they cut out so many things,” he said, adding: “This is a political season, and I am now a politician and politicians are not people who are liked, they exhume things from even 20-years.”
“As I said before, we will give a robust reply and we will also ask for the entire video to be release since they have the video “
Samples of reaction on the video that has gone viral on social media:
Festus Keyamo, SAN, Presidential aide says: The case of Senator Elisha Abbo is very straightforward: the Police MUST IMMEDIATELY take three steps: 1. Arrest him (no formal complaint is needed with the evidence on tape) 2. Obtain his statement (if he’s willing to make one) and that of the victim 3. Arraign him in court.
Oby Ezekwesili says in her twitter handle: Simply unable to shake-off the deep angst that this video of a primitively violent certain Senator Elisha Abbo evokes. How far have we fallen that such hooliganism& extreme abuse of status could happen before a Nigerian Police officer who obeyed the valiant & arrested the Victim?
While shopping sex toys with the 3 girls in his company, Senator Elisha Abbo started assaulting the nursing mother only after the policemen he summoned arrived. He slapped the woman repeatedly with protection of the police
This must be in investigated.
THISDAY Editor, Olaleye, says:
The Senator Elisha Abbo is preposterous. Methinks. We should not misplace the call for justice under emotive imbalance. How can you forget he is a product of a democratic election? Not even sure the system is ready to fund the cumbersome yet uncertain process of recall.
But as a senator, ‘maybe’ the Senate can first suspend him. He could also face legal and proper prosecution for assault and if found guilty, jailed. Afterall, a certain senator is still in prison and was sent there while in office.
What’s instructive here, however, is that a crucial message is passed on decisively against impunity of any kind. The trending video evidence is indeed overwhelming!
Matter-of-factly, we can’t afford to gloss over it through sheer noisemaking but be ready to show a degree of seriousness as a nation if we want others to take us seriously. Any nation that emphasises sanctions and rewards is serious and forward-looking.
Finally, the response so far from him shows he is limited in everything – conduct, character, disposition and even thoughtprocess. It is tawdry and disingenuous. It also reflects the quality of persons around him, yet, he is a leader in his own right, at least, by every standard.
Perhaps, he also needs help in anger management!
But we must make sure justice is served, either through legal or social means. That is all that matters now.
