The Plateau state government has approved the purchase of streetlights for 11 major areas within Jos, the state capital.
This was the highpoint of the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Simon Lalong at the government house little Rayfield, Jos on Wednesday.
Commissioner for Finance, Regina Soemlat, who gave a breakdown of figures approved for the purchase of the street light, disclosed the affected area’s as follows; Tean Junction to D.Medical Junction with a spur to Raholl Kana, Haipang road roundabout to Mararaba Jama’aa roundabout to the state secretariat over head bridge and from Miango junction to wild life park road, Jishe roundabout to Rantya low cost housing, Farin gada to Bauchi road, Polo roundabout to Farin gada, then Plateau hospital roundabout Hill Station road network. The tenth is from Plateau hospital through Central Bank maternity to Bauchi road terminus as well as Ahmadu Bello way to Polo roundabout road network. The 11th one is Masalacin Juma’aa to Polo roundabout.
Explaining the terms of agreement between the government and the contractor, the Commissioner for Works, Pam Botmang said the supply and maintenance of the street light would cover a total of 73.5 kilometers of road within the metropolis, adding that 20 per cent of the amount involved would be covered by the government while 80 per cent will be borne by the contractors.
Botmang also disclose government plans to boost the state’s profile in critical areas such as health, infrastructure and commerce through agreement with international partners and an MoU with a firm, LANMILL NIGERIA LIMITED. The MoU would enable the firm secure funding to enable the state to take up 15 road projects covering 330 kilometers.
