Over 1000 Obingwa Local Government Area have armed an All Progressives Congress (APC) governoship aspirant in the state, Chief Ikechi Emenike to sack Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the 2019 general election.
At a meeting between the aspirant and stakeholders of the area and members of the party at Ukpakiri Alaoji, yesterday, the youth said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu could not deliver on his electoral promises.
Operating under the aegis of Emenike Daughters, Emenike Youths (Abia Youth’s Forum) and Emenike Teenagers, they handed him a copy of the Holy Bible, a machete, and a white towel.
Explaining the significant of the items, the coordinator of the teenagers, Justice Ajuzie said the Bible is meant to guide him, the machete to clear his path, and the towel to wipe off his sweat on his way to the Government House.
He said after considering the poor performance of the governor even in his own home local government area, they were of the opinion that “even if he were given another chance, he will certainly not fare better.”
Ajuzie, who said they had found a leader with the capacity to restore the state back to the path of glory and achievements in the aspirant, assured of their commitment to spread the message beyond the area.
Similarly, the Deputy Chairman of the party, Hon Grant Nwogu said Ikpeazu’s defeat in the election would begin in Ward 7, where both of them belong, adding that the governor was already aware of this.
“You saw how the people trooped out in their numbers to welcome the aspirant. You also saw how neglected the area is in terms of infrastructure. Youth unemployment is an open secret here,” he added.
According to a former Chairman of the party, Barrister Fabian Okonkwo, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had collapsed and failed to deliver, adding that many of its members had indicated interest to defect to the APC.
Addressing the crowed, Emenike said at a time like this the state needs nothing but the best to lead it away from the route is had been traveling on over the years to achieve the decades-old yawning of the people.
“We lack opportunities for employment for our youth. We have to build and create institutions and job openings for them. You will see all these and how to achieve them and when in our manifesto,” he added.
