As herders/farmers clash continues to take its toll in the country, the Anglican Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Aba, Most Rev (Dr) Ikechi Nwosu has warned against it degenerating to ethnic and religious dimensions.
Nwosu stated this in an interview with Thisage after addressing the 1st Session of the 9th Synod of the province at St Luke’s Church, Amakama, (Olokoro East Archdeaconry), Umuahia South Local Government Area.
He warned that if it is allowed to escalate to that dimension, the country would be heading towards anarchy and disintegration, stressing that the Federal Government must do the needful before it claims more casualties.
Regretting the number of casualties, loss of lives and property that have trailed the clashes, Nwosu, who is also the Bishop of Umuahia, expressed worry that the security agencies seem to have been overwhelmed by it.
The clergyman warned the people against taking the laws into their hand when provoked, advising them to always be security conscious by reporting the presence of strange persons and movements within their environments.
He said as a clergyman, his heart goes for those who had suffered losses in one way or the other in the clashes, praying for the repose of their souls and as well as for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear their loss.
Suing for the peace, progress, and development of the country by fostering unity among the diverse ethnic and religious groups to move it ahead, the archbishop added that in a situation like this the watchword is total vigilance.
