Nigeria Air to Begin Operations in April 2022, Says Minister

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has disclosed that the national carrier, Nigeria Air, will take off by April 2022.

The Minister who to State House Correspondents on Wednesday after the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the national airline will be run by a company in which the government will hold a 5 per cent stake, Nigerian entrepreneurs holding 46 per cent while the remaining 49 per cent will be reserved for strategic equity partners.

According to Sirika, the national carrier, when operational, will create about 70,000 jobs for Nigerians.

The new ‘Nigeria Air’ which the Minister announced with fanfair at the Farnborough Air Show in the United Kingdom in 2018 was initially billed to commence operations in December 2018. Without warning, the government announced a suspension of the project in September 2018.
