Aviation workers on the platform of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN have shut down the Murtala Muhammed Local Airport in Lagos State, causing suspension of flight from and into the airport
Unsuspecting travellers are left unattended to as flights have been suspended.
The striking aviation workers shut down the airport as early as 6:am on Tuesday in protest over the sacking of some of their members by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), handlers of the airport.
The company had sacked 37 workers including the union executives. The union kicked against the sack and described it as witch-hunting and willful intimidation considering the refusal of the management to implement the conditions of service as agreed with them in 2021.
Meanwhile, Ibom Air has announced suspension of flight to keep weary travellers alert. The management said on Tuesday that “our operating terminal out of Lagos, the Murtala Mohamed Airport 2, operated by Bicourtney Aviation Services Limited has been completely closed off to workers and passengers alike by the labour Union, very early this morning.
“Efforts are currently being made to resolve the situation; however, please note that this action will greatly impact our flights scheduled in and out of Lagos today.
“We greatly regret the impact of this unexpected action on your day’s plans as we urge you to kindly stay close to all our communication channels for subsequent updates.”
