Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the 79-year-old widow of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has died from injuries reportedly sustained during a recent joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike in Tehran, according to Iranian media reports on Monday.
According to Iranian outlets, including Tasnim News Agency, Bagherzadeh was wounded during the same strike that killed her husband at their residential compound in the Iranian capital. She was said to have succumbed to her injuries several days later.
Iranian authorities have yet to release comprehensive details about the circumstances surrounding the air strike or the exact cause of her death. However, the development comes amid an intensifying military confrontation between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other, which has seen a series of retaliatory strikes and heightened security alerts across the region.
Bagherzadeh was born in the holy city of Mashhad and was the sister of Hassan Khojaste Bagherzadeh, a former deputy director of Iran’s state broadcaster. Despite her husband’s decades-long political prominence and leadership of the Islamic Republic, she largely remained out of the public spotlight, maintaining a private life away from the centre of power.
Her death marks another significant development in the rapidly escalating conflict, which has raised concerns over regional stability and the potential for broader international involvement. Observers say the latest casualties underscore the growing human cost of the confrontation, as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions appear increasingly strained.
