The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates, with 42.17 percent of candidates securing five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
In a statement issued by the council’s National Office in Lagos, the Acting Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Moyosola Adesina, said candidates can check their results on www.waecdirect.org before proceeding to the digital certificate platform on www.waec.org to access their certificates. Candidates who require hard copies were advised to apply online through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal, e-Certman.
According to the council, a total of 69,604 candidates registered for the examination, representing a 1.8 percent increase over the 68,342 recorded in 2024. Of this number, 65,752 candidates sat for the examination across 370 centres nationwide.
The gender distribution showed that 32,005 candidates (48.68 percent) were male, while 33,747 candidates (51.32 percent) were female. The examination also recorded the participation of 235 candidates with special needs, including the visually impaired, hearing impaired and albinos.
WAEC disclosed that 61,943 candidates, representing 94.21 percent, have had their results fully processed and released. However, 3,809 candidates (5.79 percent) still have some subjects being processed due to errors traceable to them, assuring that efforts were ongoing to conclude the process promptly.
An analysis of performance indicated that 33,989 candidates, representing 51.69 percent, obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics. More critically, 27,727 candidates, accounting for 42.17 percent of those who sat for the examination, secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Of this number, 13,416 candidates (48.39 percent) were male, while 14,311 candidates (51.61 percent) were female.
Meanwhile, the council revealed that the results of 1,899 candidates, representing 2.89 percent of the total candidates, were withheld over alleged examination malpractice. WAEC said investigations were ongoing and that affected candidates would be duly informed of the final decisions after deliberations by the appropriate committee of the council.
