Voice of Nigeria, VON, is set to partner with the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, to fight fake news and misinformation.
The Director General, VON, Mr Jibrin Ndache stated this when NGE members in the North, paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday in Abuja.
Mr Jibrin Ndache, has sought a partnership with the Nigerian Guild of Editors to fight against fake news and misinformation and to project the interests of Nigeria.
According to him, it is the responsibility of VON to correct all negative perceptions and deliberate falsehoods about Nigeria and Africa by foreign media.
“Interestingly, the NGE shares a similar role with VON. Like VON, the guild also has had to contend with other news services. It is important and imperative to take seriously its gate-keeping function.
“VON and the guild must work together to ensure we carry out our mandates free from ethnocentric or religious bias, but always in the interest of the country,” Mr Ndache noted.
The VON boss further explained that his agency would work diligently to ensure that every Nigerian feels the impact of the government by tracking the pace of service delivery across all sectors.
The leader of the delegation, Adebayo Bodunrin, said, “Today, NGE has what I would call a friendly constitution that satisfies the yearnings and aspirations of its members.”
He said the visit was part of preparations towards the forthcoming Convention of the Guild taking place in Enugu, South East, from June 26th to 29th 2025.
Other members of the delegation include the Deputy President, Hussaina Banshika; Secretary General, Iyobosa Uwugiaren PhD; Treasurer, Steve Osuji and the Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria, Ali M. Ali.
