Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have abducted a newly elected vice chairman and two councillors of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State along a highway linking Borno and Yobe states.
Those abducted were identified as the newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu LGA, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi Road.
Sources disclosed that the victims were travelling in a Hisbah vehicle alongside other passengers from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu when they were intercepted by the assailants. They were said to be heading towards Maiduguri at the time of the attack.
A credible source said one of the abducted councillors is a former vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area.
“Yes, our newly elected vice chairman, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards were abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi Road,” the source said.
“They were travelling with other unidentified passengers in a Hisbah vehicle from Potiskum to Biu when the attack occurred. One of the councillors is the immediate past vice chairman of the local government.”
The source appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted officials and other passengers unhurt.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
