Prof Izam
Worried by the looming strike by the varsity staff of the Plateau State University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam has called for calm and dialogue.
He called on the union and management to foster understanding for the effective implementation of staff welfare policies put in place by the current management which will also fast track developmental projects.
Professor Izam made this disclosure, while reacting to the planned industrial action by the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) and the Non- Academic Staff Union(NASU) of the University.
Izam expressed surprise that there has not been any breakdown of communication between the University Management and the union, the Joint Action Congress who had earlier informed him of their desire to join the 5-day nationwide protest by SSANU and NASU.
He enjoined staff of the University not to rest on their oars in promoting the emergence of a peaceful and conducive atmosphere that would foster teaching and learning considering the recent unfortunate security breaches involving some students of the university, which is being investigated.
As part of measures to find an end to the looming strike, the VC also led members of the University Management on courtesy visits to the Commissioner of Police, in the state, Isaac Akinmoyede and the Commandant of the Special Task Force, Major General Augustine Agundu to explore ways of strengthening their efforts towards enhancing security within the University.
