Visitor to the University of Lagos, President Muhammadu Buhari, has suspended the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of University of Lagos, UNILAG, Dr Wale Babalakin, SAN and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, over the leadership crisis in the institution.

Ben Goong, spokesperson of the Ministry of Education said so in a press statement late Friday

Babalakin led -Council had, on August 12, removed Ogundipe as vice-chancellor over alleged financial misappropriation and misconduct and proceeded to appoint Prof Soyombo as acting Vice-Chancellor.

But in a swift reaction, Ogundipe had issue a statement rejecting his removal, while the Senate and local chapters of four unions, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, National Association of Staff of Universities, NASU and the National   Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, backed Ogundipe. They all said the Babalakin led Council failed to follow due process in carrying out their decision.
