The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has expressed joy over the Volkswagen Foundation grant awarded to the university among other various awards the institution has been winning in recent times.
According to the VC, the grant “is a reflection of his administration’s commitment to continue to drive the momentum for research and innovation in the institution.”
The Volkswagen Foundation Grant, the second one in a row, was awarded to the Director, Centre for Digital Humanities, University of Lagos (CEDHUL), Professor ‘Tunde Ope-Davies to host the third Lagos Summer School in Digital Humanities (LSSDH) at the University of Lagos.
In a congratulatory message, Ogundipe states that the university will continue to provide the enabling environment for staff and students to interact and compete effectively with other counterparts globally in order to continue to achieve its goals and enhance the rising global ranking of the university.
The annual summer Institute, which is being organized in conjunction with the Institute for Digital Humanities at the University of Cologne, Germany under the aegis of the Volkswagen Foundation’s Scheme “Knowledge for Tomorrow – Cooperative Research Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa”, will be held on the Main Campus of the University of Lagos as a blended event from May 9 to 15, 2021.
Award recipient, Prof Ope-Davies, said “the Summer School has remained a veritable platform to retool academics, and produce scholars and researchers in the humanities who are now deploying digital tools for research and innovation.
He said over 60 participants from Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa are expected to attend the week-long workshop while several other scholars from Africa and beyond will participate virtually.
International experts and facilitators in Digital Humanities are expected to teach the classes virtually from Europe, Africa, USA and Canada.
