The University of Ibadan, Ibadan yesterday graduated a7,430 students with 241 of them making first-class honours from various degree programmes and faculties in its 2017/2018 academic session.
A graduand in computer science with a 7:0 aggregate, Miss Ofure Ebhomienlen was given special mention by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka.
Disclosing this is the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Idowu Olayinka while speaking during the 71st foundation day and convocation ceremonies at the International Conference Centre of the school, Ibadan.
Prof. Olayinka said: “A total of 7,430 candidates will be awarded first degrees on Tuesday and tomorrow, Wednesday, while 293 persons will be awarded diplomas.
“This morning candidates are graduating from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Public Health and Law. The first degree graduands from the other faculties, the Distance Learning Centre and the Affiliated Institutions will have their turn tomorrow(Wednesday).
“A total of 241 of our students are graduating with First Class Honours. The Faculty of
Science has the highest number of First Class at 46 followed by the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry with 38 and the Faculty of Technology with 27.
“A further breakdown of the graduating list shows that 3.38 per cent and 27.61 per cent of our students finished with first class and second class upper (Division) Honours, respectively.
“Analysis of class of Degrees of the 2017/2018 first Degree graduands from the
University of Ibadan, 241 made first-class, 1,966 made second-class ( upper division), 4, 206 made second-class (lower division), 625 third-class and 82 pass.
“It is, therefore, with pleasure that I report that these graduands, who are being awarded the various diplomas, certificates and degrees of this university have kept to the oath to which, they subscribed to during their Matriculation ceremony.
“A special recognition must be given to one of our students who finished with a perfect
Cummulative Grade Point Average of 7.0. She is Ofure Mary Ebhomielen of the Department of Computer Science”.
