KRC Gent vs Liverpool, 1-4

Alex Oxlade-Chambaerlain scored a brace for Liverpool

With goals from Oxlade- Chamberlain in the 2^nd and 57^th min, a Sadio Mane 77^th min Liverpool swung the game their way and completely dominated the match.  Mo Salah made it 4 in the 87^th min. Odey however pulled one back for the homeboys almost immediately after Salah’s goal but it was only a consolation. The deserved win putt them second in the group now.

RB Salzburg vs Napoli 2-3

As usual, 19 year old Erling Braut Haaland was the star of the match with a brilliant brace in the 40^th and 72^nd mins but a drilling, well coordinated play by visiting Napoli side was all it took them to ride the match in which Mertens opened scoring in the 17^th min to give the visitors the lead. Merten made it two in the 65^th min before Insigne nipped the game in the 73^rd min.

Lorenzo Insigne winning goal for Napoli made them climb back above Liverpool at the top of Group E. This leaves Salzburg in a precarious third position and perhaps a disastrous one if they lose their next match against Genk.

Slavia Prague vs Barcelona, 1-2

Suarez cross bounces off Peter Olayinka’s body for an own goal to give Barca away win

 

Lionel Messi has showed that his presence in any Barcelona match matters. He opened scoring in the 4^th min with a perfect kick from a return pass to Arthur whom he had initially given the ball in the box.

Slavia mounted the pressure which threatened Barca’s defense, leading to a goal by Boril. But Messi won the match when his deep free-kick which found Luiz Suarez whose cross deflected off the body of Peter Olayinka in the 58^th min. It was an own goal. Messi? He became the first player to score in 15 consecutive Champions League seasons. Barca stands unthreatened atop Group F with 7 points followed by Inter and Dortmund with 4 apiece.

Ajax vs Chelsea, 0-I

Batshuayi breaks the deadlock with the winning goal for Chelsea

This was a tension soaked game in which both teams seized every chance to counter attack and defend but with no goal to show for their efforts, until golden boy, Mitchy Batshuayi broke the deadlock 4mins to end of the match. It showed in the statistics: Ajax took 53% ball possession to Chelsea’s 47%, and 10 to 11 shots at goal. At the end substitute Batshuayi goal was a swift victory song in the 86^th min because he had missed a chance earlier on.

RB Leipzig vs Zenit, 2-1

 

Marcel’s volley gives Leipzig the lead

Marcel Sabitzer gave RB Leipzig the lead against Zenit St Petersburg with a great volley into the top corner in the 59^th min. Midfielder Konrad Laimer had equalised just after the break, cancelling out Zenkit’s Rabtskiy 25^th min lead in the first half. They played the same 4-4-2 formation. With the win, Leipzig moved to the top of Group G.

 Inter Milan vs B Dortmund, 2-0

 Lautaro Matinez and A Candreva unreplied goals in the 22^nd and 89^th mins gave them the match. In fact Inter would have made it 3-0 if Martinez had scored the penalty in the 82^nd min.

Benfica vs Lyon, 2-1
