UEFA: Atletico M Tame Champions Liverpool, As Dortmund’s Haland Drills PSG, 2-1

Saul is greated by team mates  after the opening goal in 4min of play

The early 4 min goal by Saul with a Koke assist separated the visiting Champions Liverpool and the home side, Atletico Madrid in a thrilling encounter that the visitors dominated by ball possession and skills but somehow were too goal shy to make any impact.

Atletico however made history by keeping a clean home sheet: They are yet to lose a home knockout since Simeone took charge. But Anfield may be a killing field for Atletico with just one goal difference.

Hear Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, speaking to BT Sport: “We conceded the goal from the corner, first chance for them, not even a chance. Bit of luck.

“The message at half time was to keep playing. We had the ball most of the game but unfortunately could not create massive opportunities. We still have another 90 minutes to set it right.

“It is the way they play. It is a bit of the Spanish football as well and you have to adapt but we knew it and I feel we handled it pretty well.”

Borussia Dortmund Vs PSG, 2-1

Overjoyed two goal wonder boy Haland spread out on the field

After much between visiting PSG and host Dortmund, the two teams got into the game with frenzy in the dying periods of the match when the goals started coming in.

But it was wonder boy Erland Haland that broke the jinx with a 69th min goal during a goal mouth scramble.

Within the minutes PSG replied through a combination of efforts by strikers Kylian Mbappe and Neyman as they got in behind the Borussia Dortmund defence to register the equalizer in the 76th min

In the 77th Haland got a wonderful pass from Reyna and did not waste time to smash the ball past Navas with his left foot.

Unrelenting, PSG kept pressing and Mbappe almost got a header in the 82nd min but the ball bounced off the post and ended the game in favour of the home side.
