U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could resume military strikes against Iran if Tehran fails to comply with the terms of a recently announced peace framework.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France on Wednesday, Trump stressed that the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran was not yet a final peace accord but a memorandum of understanding subject to further negotiations.
“If they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs,” Trump said, while responding to questions about the future of the agreement and the possibility of sanctions relief for Iran.
Trump maintained that the understanding reached with Tehran was only the first step in a broader process aimed at addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security activities. He insisted that Iran would not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.
The warning came amid ongoing discussions over the implementation of the framework agreement, which seeks to transform a ceasefire arrangement into a more comprehensive settlement capable of preventing a return to conflict.
The U.S. president also dismissed suggestions that the agreement automatically entitles Iran to immediate sanctions relief, indicating that Washington would continue to assess Tehran’s actions before making further concessions.
