Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have intercepted armed suspects and rescued injured victims in a series of swift and coordinated security operations across Plateau State, reinforcing efforts to restore peace and stability in troubled communities.
In a decisive and proactive move to safeguard lives and property, the troops intensified security operations across Jos North and surrounding areas, recording significant breakthroughs that underscore the military’s commitment to curbing violence and maintaining order.
Detailing the outcomes of the coordinated security operations, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said acting on a strengthened mandate to prevent further escalation of tensions, the troops conducted a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across the Jos metropolis on Friday. The operation yielded immediate results as security operatives intercepted and arrested two suspects during coordinated patrols.
Items recovered from the suspects included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action shotgun, and a cutlass. The arrests and recoveries were made during targeted operations across key flashpoints and transit corridors, including Jos South, Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost Housing Estate, effectively disrupting potential threats.
In a related development, troops responded swiftly to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market in Shendam. Upon arrival, the unidentified gunmen were forced to retreat into surrounding bushes under sustained military pressure, demonstrating rapid response capability and tactical superiority.
A subsequent sweep of the area led to the rescue of two local residents who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility, where they are receiving urgent treatment, highlighting the military’s dual role in both security enforcement and humanitarian response.
The Command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining a strong and stabilising security presence across the state. It assured residents that operations will continue with increased intensity until all threats are neutralised and lasting peace is fully restored.
