President-elect, Bola Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima were on Monday sworn in as President and Vice President of Nigeria by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, who administered the Oath of Office at the Eagles Square before many dignitaries from across the world.
He swore that he would think and act first as president of all and down play his personal interest in the governance of the nation.
Tinubu was declared as the President-Elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission, after winning the Presidential election on the 25th of February.
The former Lagos governor from 1999 to 2007 emerged victorious on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Presidential polls on the 25th of February, 2023, having polled 8,739,249 votes to win the election. By that number, he defeated his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election and Peter Obi of the Labour Partywho came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
Presidents and Heads of Government included Mahamat Idriss Déby (Republic of Chad), Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), Abdelmadjid Tebboune (Algeria), Nana Akufo Addo (Ghana), Macky Sall (Senegal), Julius Maada Bio (Sierra-Leone), Adama Barrow (Gambia), Denis Sassou Nguesso (Congo Brazzaville), Mohamed Bazoum (Niger), Paul Kagame (Rwanda) and Joseph Ngute (Cameroon Prime Minister).
The France delegation was led by Minister Delegate for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou.
The Japanese delegation was led by Special Envoy to Prime Minister of Japan, Tanaka Kazunori.
India’s Defence Minister, Rajinath Singh, led the country’s delegation to the event.
