President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of a military battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, following a deadly overnight attack by Boko Haram terrorists on villagers in Worro.
In a statement issued late Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the newly deployed troops would lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at checking the terrorists and protecting defenceless communities.
President Tinubu condemned the attack as cowardly and brutal, noting that the assailants deliberately targeted innocent villagers who had rejected forced extremist indoctrination.
He praised the victims for maintaining a peaceful practice of Islam, rejecting violence and radicalism.
“It is commendable that the community members, despite being Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a belief that glorifies violence over dialogue and peace,” the President said.
He called for close collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide relief for the affected families and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people, and the government of Kwara State.
