A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to suspend enforcement of its tinted glass permit policy, pending the determination of a suit challenging its legality.
The case, marked FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, was filed by legal practitioner John Aikpokpo-Martins, with the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force listed as defendants.
In an interim order, the court directed the police to maintain the status quo, stressing that any disobedience would amount to contempt.
The ruling comes amid mounting public criticism of the policy, which requires motorists to secure police authorization for vehicles with tinted windows.
The Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) had earlier condemned police attempts at enforcement despite pending court cases.
It disclosed that it had filed a separate suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking a ruling on the policy’s constitutionality.
NBA-SPIDEL also warned that any attempt by the police to flout judicial processes would attract contempt proceedings.
