Tension has heightened in communities within Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State following the abduction of 14 young girls by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
Spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the girls, all from Mussa District, were seized while working on a farm at about 3:30pm on November 22, 2025.
Following a distress alert from the District Head of Huyum, a joint team comprising police operatives, the military, CJTF and local vigilante hunters launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission.
One of the abducted girls managed to escape and was recovered by the advancing rescue team. Thirteen others are still missing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, reassured residents that intensive operations were underway to locate and safely rescue the remaining victims.
He urged farmers and rural dwellers to remain vigilant and operate strictly within designated security patrol zones.
The Command also appealed for timely information from locals to aid ongoing counter-insurgency efforts, adding that further updates would be provided as operations continue.
