Suspected arsonists set ablaze 75 years old Woman, two others in Kogi

Some yet to be identified arsonists have set ablaze and killed a 75 years old woman identified as Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani in Kogi State.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday at her Oketekwe residence in Idah Local Government Area of the State.

Our Correspondent reliably gathered that, the ugly incident also affected her first daughter Hajarat Usman Sani and a five year old granddaughter identified as Onechojo who also died as a result of the fire incident.

According to a family source who never wanted his name mentioned because he was not authorized to speak said” Some group of people came to the house with petrol while our grandmother was sleeping alongside her daughter and granddaughter. The poured the petrol on the house and light fire.

“Mallama’s five year old granddaughter died immediately after having severe burns while Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani alongside her own daughter was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. Mallama later died in the hospital while her own daughter is still battling for life”.

Late Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani was given the title of Akwuma Attah Igala in 2023.

Meanwhile, the remains of late Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani and the five year old girl have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

When contacted, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya said the Police is yet to get any information about the incident.

He promised to get back to our correspondent as soon as information is made available to the command on the incident.
