Supreme Court Nullifies Lyon’s Election, Declares PDP Winner

Lyon of APC and Diri of PDP

The Supreme Court has nullified the election of Bayelsa State governor-elect, David Lyon and his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

A five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili based their decision on the November 12, 2019 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had disqualified Degi-Eremienyo presenting forged certificate the the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The apex court said in its ruling, Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification affected Lyon since it was a joint ticket.

The court therefore ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return, earlier presented to Lyon and issue a fresh one to Diri Duoye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who came second in the November 16 governorship election
