Citing overcrowding in the hall and the absence of one of the justices due to illness, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed on Monday at the Supreme Court premises announced the postponement of the appeals dealing with governorship disputes in the seven states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Imo, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto.
The noise in the packed hall was so deafening that Justice Mohammed had to intervene by asking the politicians to decongest the hall and the their counsels to reduce their numbers to five each.
Thereafter, he announced that one of the justices had taken ill, according to him: “due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control, the court will abruptly rise because one of us is sick.”
The one of the registrars of the court announced that all appeals in the case have been adjourned to January 14.
He merely postponed the heightened anxiety that had engulfed the political landscape by adjourning the the appeals to Tuesday, January 14.
