Senate Appoints Chairmen, Deputies Of Standing Committees For Regional Devt Commissions

The Senate has appointed chairmen and deputy chairmen of standing committees to oversee three regional development commissions in the country.

President Bola Tinubu recently assented to the bills establishing the North West Development Commission, North Central Development Commission, and the South East Development Commission.

According to the announcement made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, Senator Babangida Hussaini and Muntari Dandutse were appointed Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on NWDC.

While Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Kenneth Eze were named Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively for the SEDC; Sen Titus Zam Tartenger and Senator Isa Jibrin were appointed Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on NCDC.

The Senate also reshuffled the leadership of some standing committees as Senator Abdul Ningi moved from population to head the Senate committee on FERMA while Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan who previously heads the committee on local content is now the Chairman of Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisation.

Also appointed is Senator Garba Maidoki as Chairman Senate Committee on Sports Development, Senator Joel Thomas is the new Chairman Senate Committee on Local Content, while Senator Victor Umeh is now the Chairman Senate Committee on National Population and NIMC having been moved from the Senate Committee on Diaspora.
