Starting from Monday, November 1, 2022, vehicles entering the National Assembly would be stopped and searched by the police working together with the Sergeant-at-Arms department.
This directive follows the outcome of the National Assembly Committee on Security meeting during which it reviewed the security implications of the recent alerts issued on Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, by embassies of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada and France.
According to the Director of Administration at the Directorate of Human Resources and Staff Development of the National Assembly, Dr Tahir, Mohammed Sani, all vehicles coming into the premises of the National Assembly would be searched from the approved date.
“This entails that the drivers of the vehicles shall by themselves open the booth of their cars and submit their vehicles to comprehensive checks,” he said.
To avoid embarrassment, Rep members and senators were advised to use the presidential gate, unless they were prepared to submit themselves to the ‘stop and search’ policy
