The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the immediate suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, over allegations of gross financial misconduct.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the NWC also suspended the National Auditor, Nze Nnadi Clarkson, and the National Youth Leader, Uchechukwu Chukwuma.

The statement read,

“In exercise of its exclusive powers as guaranteed in Articles 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the Party Constitution (2022 as amended), the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the immediate suspension of the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with two members of the NWC—Nze Nnadi Clarkson, National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, National Youth Leader—over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds.”

The party said the decision followed a resolution reached at an emergency meeting of the NWC, where what it described as “overwhelming evidence” was presented linking the affected officials to unauthorised financial transactions, personal enrichment schemes, and diversion of funds from the party’s accounts without the necessary approvals of the committee.

The SDP said further investigations would be carried out and appropriate disciplinary measures taken in accordance with the party’s constitution.
