On Thursday, a group of women in Rivers State stormed out of an empowerment event held at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt. They refused to be addressed by Theresa Ibas, the wife of the state’s administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd.).
The gathering, which was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, descended into protest as the women chanted and demanded that only Valerie Fubara, the wife of the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, should speak to them.
The women rose in unison and exited the hall, chanting “We want Sim” to express their disapproval of Theresa Ibas’ presence.
“We need Mrs Oluremi Tinubu to come and address us, she is the one we have been waiting for. We don’t need a stranger. We want Sim right now. Sim should come today, not tomorrow.
“Who is that impostor? Ibas’s wife is addressing Rivers’ women. Who is she? Come on, pack your load, Madam, we don’t want you”, one of the protesters said.
President Bola Tinubu, on March 18, suspended Governor Fubara and his deputy, along with the Rivers State House of Assembly, for an initial period of six months and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (rtd) as Administrator in charge of the State.
