The most looked upon African Champions, The Teranga Lions of Senegal were Sunday shoved off the football forest of Qatar 3-0 in a battle of Lions as The Three Lions of England were so superior in play at the round of 16 game.
That defeat leaves Africa’s hope for a quarter final appearance on the Atlas Lions of Morocco who will be meeting Spain on Tuesday 6th December at 4pm.
Liverpool Captain, Jordan Henderson scored his first goal of the Mundial at 38th minute from a pass of Jude Bellingham and his team Captain as well as Skipper of Tottenham Hotspurs, Harry Kane also scored his first goal at the Qatar world cup at 45+2 off a Phil Foden pass when the players were not concentrating on the match but perhaps waiting for the half time whistle.
On resumption of the second half Senegal’s performance dropped. It was a game that the knowledge of draught game pays with the passes. Nigeria’s Olubukayo Saka playing on the right flank for England took advantage of the good stringing of Passes by England by Phil Foden to score England’s 3rd goal at 57th minute. Saka thereby joins the league of three goals scorers in Qatar.
Harry Kane said after the match that experience won them the gain as the English players are more experienced and told the English fans that their team is going to get better as they progress.
England won group B having subdued Iran 6-2 in the first match, played goalless with USA and beaten Wales 3-0. The Three Lions had 7 points with 7 goals difference. USA placed second here with 5 points and +1 goals difference.
Senegal is Runners-up group A losing the first game 0-2 to group winner Netherlands; defeated hosts Qatar 3-1 and beat Ecuador 2-1 having 6 points and +1 goals difference where Netherlands had 7 points and +4 goals difference.
The two teams have never met at any level of competition or friendly matches but on the 2nd of March 2022 Three Lions of England consumed the Elephants of Ivory Coast 3-0.
By this victory, the Three Lions of England will meet defending champions France in the quarterfinal on Saturday 10th December. On Friday 9th December, Netherlands will meet Argentina in the first quarterfinals in Lusail. Netherlands had beaten USA 3-1 and Argentina piped Australia 2-1 in the round of 16 matches.
England won the trophy in 1966 and placed 4th in 1990 and at the last competition in Russia 2018. England made quarterfinals five times before in 1954; 1962; 1970; 1986 and 2002.
Tomorrow Monday at 4pm, Japan will meet Croatia and at 8pm Brazil will line up against South Korea also in the round of 16 games.
