The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has begun the recruitment of 50,000 new police constables as part of President Bola Tinubu’s accelerated plan to expand national security manpower.
The mass recruitment drive follows the President’s emergency security directive issued on November 26, 2025, ordering law enforcement agencies to scale up personnel strength and reinforce community policing in response to escalating insecurity across the country.
In a statement on Thursday, the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, announced that the application portal will open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, and close on January 25, 2026.
Kalu said the large-scale recruitment is intended to “enhance internal security, reinforce grassroots policing, and expand the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force,” adding that the exercise will be strictly merit-based and transparent.
According to the Commission, applicants for the General Duty cadre must possess GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO or equivalent certificates with at least five credits—including English Language and Mathematics—obtained in not more than two sittings.
For the Specialists Cadre, candidates must have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings, along with at least three years of professional experience and relevant trade test certifications.
All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, fall between the ages of 18 and 25 for the General Duty category or 18 and 28 for the Specialists, and meet minimum height requirements of 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women.
The PSC said the recruitment process will include physical and medical screenings, aptitude tests and background verification to ensure high standards, integrity and professionalism within the Force.
Applications are to be completed exclusively online through the PSC recruitment portal, where candidates are required to upload all necessary documents and follow the stated procedures.
The Commission urged applicants to shun fraudsters and rely only on official communication channels.
With the recruitment of 50,000 constables, the Federal Government hopes to significantly bolster policing capacity, restore stability and strengthen Nigeria’s overall security architecture.
