Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured the people of the state that his rise to power will not alter his character or values, pledging to remain humble and committed to advancing the state’s development.
Fubara made the promise on Tuesday during a reception held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, where state leaders, elders, and stakeholders gathered to celebrate his 50th birthday.
Addressing his guests, the Governor said, “I want to assure you that I will remain the Fubara you know; power will not change me. I will hold onto the values I cherish—faith in God and respect for people.
“Power is transient, but my principles and commitment to Rivers State are unwavering. With your support, we will lay the foundation to achieve the Rivers State of our dreams. Even if we don’t fully accomplish it, we will set the stage for that transformation.”
Fubara vowed not to engage in actions that could bring disgrace to himself or those who have stood by him, emphasising, “I will not let you down. This is a morning of gratitude, not politics. I celebrate my Golden Jubilee today, and I thank God for His grace.”
He expressed appreciation to his wife, Lady Valerie, his family, and all attendees for their support and sacrifices, adding, “This milestone is a testimony of divine favor.”
In his remarks, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, commended Fubara for his steadfastness despite challenges.
He criticized former Governor Nyesom Wike, whom he accused of attempting to distract the current administration, stating, “Once a king is crowned, the kingmaker must step aside for the king to lead.”
Secondus praised Fubara’s inclusive leadership style, describing it as evidence of his divine mandate.
Former Governor Celestine Omehia also lauded Fubara, calling him a “deliverer” who has brought hope to Rivers State.
He noted the governor’s reliance on divine guidance and pledged the continued support of Rivers people for his administration.
