Police Commissioner in Kaduna State, Sunday Babaji, has confirmed receiving complaints about voter intimidation in Kajuru and Zaria Local Governments in Kaduna state, disclosing that he has ordered his officers to investigate the allegation.
Governor Nasir el-Rufa and the governorship candidate of the All-Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Senator Sani Uba had made the complaint earlier in the day. The Labour Party also made allegations of voter intimidation and buying against the party.
CP Babaji however said voting has been generally peaceful in the state with over 16,000 policemen and women deployed to maintain law and order. He denied knowledge of intimidation against candidates of the Labour Party.
As a proof of the peaceful conduct of the poll, he said, ” voters willing to stay at the polling units to monitor voting are free to do so under the protection of the police.”
