The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit, with effect from January 2, 2026, citing heightened security concerns across the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said criminal elements have increasingly exploited vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass to conceal their identities while perpetrating crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent offences.
The Force clarified that there was no court order restraining the enforcement of the law, explaining that the earlier suspension of the exercise was a voluntary decision aimed at giving motorists adequate time to regularise their documents and comply with the requirements.
According to the FPRO, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed that the renewed enforcement be conducted strictly in line with existing laws, professionalism and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens.
The police further assured members of the public that officers assigned to the exercise would be properly guided to prevent abuse and unnecessary confrontation with motorists, while reiterating the Force’s commitment to public safety.
Motorists who require tinted glass permits have been advised to apply through approved channels and ensure full compliance ahead of the January 2 enforcement date.
