Police Nab Kidnap Suspect At Point Of Collecting N1m Ransom

A team of detectives attached to the Anti-kidnapping Squad (D7) of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID), Umuahia, has arrested a suspected kidnapper at the point of collecting N1m ransom.

The Abia State Commissioner for Police, Leye Oyebade stated this while speaking to newsmen in his office at the Command’s headquarters, along Bende Road in Umuahia, the state capital.

He said the suspect was arrested at Nekede/Ihiagwa in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo, adding that the hostage, Ejiogu Ugochukwu from Umueze Ibeku in Umuahia was rescued.

“However, the hostage has reunited with members of his family and his Nissan Almera car recovered by men of Safer Highway Patrol Team at Alaoji  Ugwunagbo,” he announced.

According to him, the suspect, one Orji Uka ‘m’ from Ekoli Edda in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State had confessed to committing the crime with four others who are now at large.

Saying the squad is trailing the others, he added that the police had also arrested suspected criminals of other offences, recovered stolen vehicles, items, and huge sum of money in various denominations during the week.

Oyebade, who said the command, had established contacts with owners of the identified vehicles and items lauded the efforts of his officers and men at checking criminality in the state.

“The command is determined to rid the state of crime and criminality and has embarked on numerous proactive measures to ensure that crimes are nipped in the bud,” the commissioner added.
