The Plateau Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arraigned four allegedly notorious for persons for terrorizing the Tarok Community of Kadarko District of Wase Local Government Council in the state, leading to the death of several innocent citizens .
The ring leader Shehu Jatau with his accomplices were arraigned before Justice P.S. Gang of the Plateau High Court sitting in Jos ,Division on eight counts charge of culpable homicide ,
The four accused persons, Shehu Jatau, Nanjul Timothy, Ponjul Nimmak and Lohfa Jimam, were arraigned over offences of culpable homicide, murder, treason, armed robbery, rape, stealing, manslaughter, forgery and being members of an unlawful society .
Recall that owning to the incessant attacks, killing and rapping of women by a militia gang leader, Shehu Jatau, and five of his accomplices, the army traced them to a hotel in the central area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, arrested and handed them over to the Police command for onward prosecution.
According to reports ,”the army said that their preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in a recent Plateau State crisis and then escape to Abuja where they resorted to “kidnapping, extortion and unleashing unprecedented carnage on residents .”
Jatau and his gang members were in court and the clerk read all the 8- counts charge to them individually and they all pleaded not guilty to the charges .
The prosecution counsel ,Barr E.A.Inegbenoise told the court that the four accused persons should be remanded in correctional centre until the determination of the suit .
The matter which came up for hearing on December 16, 2020 for mention with Prof Sylvester Shikyil as the defense counsel to Shehu Jatau and 3 of his accomplishes in the criminal offenses.
Prof Sylvester didn’t objected to the plead of application for adjournment of the suit which Justice P.S.Gang adjourned to January 11, 2020 for continuation of hearing .
The plaintiff counsel ,Barr Inegbenoise concluded arrangement to present witnesses to come testify and the defendant counsel Prof Sylvester told the court that they were just served by plaintiff counsel with statement of counter affidavit.
