The Plateau State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning ,Barr.Peter Nyam Gai has disclosed that the administration’s committee on land reform would ensure fairness in resolving issues connected with land dispute in the state.
Speaking to Journalists at his office in Jos ,Mr Gai assured the people of Jos South LGA that adequate compensation would be pay to those that have genuine documents .
According to him, the committee is to investigate land dispute is completely independence which everyone including him, the Commissioner stand to be investigated if found wanting or complaint against.
“I have nothing to hide, the committee has the right to invite me the Commissioner if they have proof that I am liable. And if I am found wanting, they can equally prosecute me so they should be confident that the governor is going to be fair in this matter,”Gai explained.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner stressed that the building of Bukuru stadium is a project that would benefit everyone and informed the people of the state that the people oriented administration of Governor Mutfwang quickly set up the committee to compensate those whose land was taken without proper compensation. He appealed to them to come forward and identify with the committee members.
He maintained that the communities that freely donated land to government for building of either schools or hospital would not be compensated but stand to benefit by way of employment or meaningful development in the area .
Gai stated that the present government is not ready to witch hunt people but to look into environment issues and eliminate institutional deficiency, address high level of inadequate human resources, endemic level of corruption, bureaucratic bottlenecks and delays in the processing of land documents. He said with the introduction of the Geographic Information System into land administration in both developed and developing countries, the society has been impacted in various ways.
He disclosed that improvements in the land markets and government revenue generated are evident.
“It is against this backdrop that this committee seeks to examine the impacts of the improved Registration of Land rights on land market and government revenue in Plateau State, by examining the challenges of improving land rights registration, identifying and evaluating the conditions of the land markets before and after the improved registration and an analysis of government revenue accrued from land transaction (first registration, ground rents collection, assignments, mortgages).
