The Presidential Elections Petition Court (PEPC), Abuja, has denied reports that it has fixed September 16, to deliver judgement on the petition challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu.
Some media outfits on Monday reported that the PEPC has fixed September 16 to deliver judgement on the Petitions filed by presidential candidates of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, challenging the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last election at the February 25, 2023 presidential polls.
The reports claimed that that the five-man tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Simon Tsaman has now picked September 16 as the judgment date.
According to the Secretary of the PEPC panel, Barrister Josephine J. Ekperobe,
“The news is fake. No date has been set by the court to deliver judgement.”
The September 16, 2023 date is the final day constitutionally allowed for the tribunal to deliver its judgment on the three petitions instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) together with their presidential candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Princess Chichi Ojei respectively.
The defendants in the cases are Tinubu, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A source in the PEPC said the court has not fixed any date to deliver judgement.
