Nigerians have been urged to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the fight to ensure an enduring peace and unity in the country.
The Commandant General of National Unity and Peace Corps, Nigerian Peace Corps in view, Dr.Chinedu Nneji, made the appeal in Abuja while addressing Journalists on this year’s celebration of the international day of peace. Dr.Nneji remarked that the corps has embarked on some initiatives geared towards uniting the people and having an enduring love among themselves irrespective of religion or ethnicity especially now that the President is making every efforts to ensure that everybody in the country sees each other as brothers and sisters.
According to him, the Corps is collaborating with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, to inculcate the cultures of oneness among the pupils as a way of laying good foundation from the grassroots through a program tagged, Catch them young.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s program titled, Shaping the peace of the world and togetherness, we exist, the Commandant General noted that the corps has visited some internally Displaced Camps, Motherless babies homes as well as the Nigerian legion to show them love and care as part of the celebration of this year’s International Day of Peace.
He, however, said that the corps is working together with other paramilitary agencies in actualizing the desired peace and unity among the people and that the corps has engaged Nigerian youth in the six geopolitical zones in the country to build a foundation of peace in the grassroots in the country.
Dr. Nneji, however, called on Nigerians to see the theme of this year’s international day of peace as a way forward for a united entity and appealed to the National Assembly to pass the National unity and peace corps bill before it as the passage will give the corps the expected power to execute all its laudable ideas.
