The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its National Convention to hold between Thursday, 28th August, and Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The Acting National Chairman of the Party, Amb. Iliyasu Umar Damagum, disclosed this at the end of the 99th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
A communiqué signed by Damagum disclosed that the NEC acknowledged the Resolution of the South East Zonal Executive concerning the position of National Secretary of the party. However, it resolved to defer action on the matter until its next meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.
In a move to consolidate internal party processes, the NEC ratified the composition of committees that will guide the National Convention.
The National Convention Organising Committee will be chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), with Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun) as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah (Enugu) as Secretary.
The Zoning Committee will be led by Governor Douye Diri (Bayelsa) as Chairman, Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) as Vice Chairman, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) as Secretary
Highliting rising insecurity, economic hardship, and policy mismanagement as indicators of systemic failure, the NEC condemned what it described as “the irredeemably exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people” governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government..
“NEC condemns the worsening insecurity—wanton killings, banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism—emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his constitutional duty to protect Nigerians”, the communiqué read.
The party also warned against what it called a “sinister plot to transform Nigeria into a one-party state.”
“The Tinubu-led APC is openly threatening opposition parties and democratic institutions in a desperate bid to avoid electoral defeat in 2027″, it alleged.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, rule of law, and multi-party politics, the NEC assured that the PDP remains “strong, resilient, united, and determined” to lead the charge to rescue the country from what it calls the “vicious grip of the APC.”
The meeting had all the party’s NWC members, Governors of Bauchi, Enugu, Adamawa, Taraba, Oyo, Osun, Zamfara and Bayelsa States in attendance with members of the Board of Trustees, State Chairmen of the party and members of the National Assembly from the party. However, former Vice president Atiku Abubakar, Minister of Federal Capital Territory. Nyesom Wike and Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno were absent at the meeting
