The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 44-member zoning committee ahead of its November national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who inaugurated the committee, urged the panel to ensure fairness in the distribution of key party offices.
Damagum emphasised that decisions of the panel, led by Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, could influence the party’s 2027 presidential ticket and restore public confidence.
He urged the committee to prioritise unity, equity, and strategic positioning for victory, warning against the divisive disputes over zoning that have plagued the party since 2015.
PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, pledged full support, describing the party as Nigeria’s “best hope for credible governance” after years of APC rule.
The inauguration followed a stern warning from PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, who insisted that “anything short of 100 percent loyalty” from members, including FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, would attract sanctions.
The party also dismissed Wike’s objections to recent zonal congresses, stressing it would not take conditions from any member ahead of the convention.
