A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, close to Jere Station, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
The incident comes days after the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed that one of the coaches’ wheels on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) experienced a hot axle several kilometres from Rigasa Station in Kaduna on August 20.
This latest incident occurred after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m., en route to Kaduna, before it derailed close to Jere Station.
Although no record of fatality or injuries, reports say military personnel have been deployed to the site to assist in evacuating stranded passengers.
As of press time, the management of NRC had yet to issue any statement on the incident.
