Senator Adeleke
The eligibility and qualification of Senator Ademola Adeleke, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to contest the Osun governorship election has been re-affirmed by a Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State.
The judgement nullified the ruling earlier given by the Bwari High Court, which had ruled during the week that Adeleke was unqualified to vie for the governorship because he lacked the constitutional requirement of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, result.
The Appeal Court on Saturday affirmed an earlier ruling by the Osogbo High Court that Adeleke was qualified to contest in the election having been educated to secondary school level, rejected the petitioner’s appeal that Dr Akin Ogunbiyi who is the second runner up at the governorship primary should be declared winner. The court also said the Bwari court had no jurisdiction to hear the case, that the petitioner, one Kingsley Awosiyan from Ife Central has no locus standi to file the case and that the case was brought to court outside the stipulated 14 days after the conduct of the governorship primaries.
