Edo North Senatorial District representative in the 10th Senate, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday, was forced to apologize to his colleagues over looting allegations he made against senators of the 9th Assembly.
The former Edo State governor had, alleged in a recent television interview, Senators of the 9th National Assembly looted their offices at the end of their tenure in June 2023.
Miffed by the accusation, old and new senators accused Senator Oshiomhole of breaching parliamentary privileges by his allegation and demanded an apology to the Senate in plenary.
Senator Solomon Adeola, APC, Ogun West, raised a motion on the matter on Tuesday and was supported by Senator Adamu Aliero, PDP, Kebbi Central before Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, through a point of order, moved that the Senate should dissolve into an executive session to deliberate on the “sensitive” matter.
- Senators opposed the idea of executive session and voted against if, thereby forcing the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio to call on Oshiomhole to do the needful.
Oshiomhole, in his submission, apologised for the comment, saying he defended the Senate during his television interview under reference rather than indicting Senators of the 9th Senate
